Becky: You've masterfully tied together a lot of great ideas to help us remember that we can't lose focus on our current customers! Thanks for including me in a great collection of links.

Becky,

When we ignore our customers, we ignore our second-most important people (employees come first, as they represent customer touch points and are responsible for everything we do). Thank you for sharing.

Rosa, it is great how we all learn from each other. I always learn something new from you.

I like the way you point out the "bird in the hand" has been feeding us so well! The more we care and nurture these "birds", the better we will be fed in the long run.

Thanks for visiting, Rosa!

Aloha Becky,
Thank you for sharing some of Managing with Aloha with your readers, and within such good coaching that I can keep learning from too!

You make several good points here about businesses needing to take far better care of their existing customers as opposed to continually looking to find new ones. That old adage that says “a bird in hand is far better than two perched on a bush” has always made more sense to me, especially when that “bird in hand” has been the one feeding us so well! The very best business growth comes from those people who have already invested their attentions in us, deciding to become our champions and evangelists, but we have to give them the good stories to tell about us!

Paul, thank you very much! I like your idea of the platinum rule, one step above the golden rule. Of course, that requires understanding your customers well enough to know how they want to be treated!!

Thanks for coming by, Paul.

Really great collection of insights Becky! Even though it's business, it's still about 'relationships' and similar rules apply for customer relationships as they do for personal relationships. Your list of ideas captures many of those. One I like to rely on is the "platinum rule." Which states that you should "treat customers the way THEY want to be treated." Which is one step above the golden rule of treating customers the way YOU want to be treated.
